Word of Mouth – We’d all like some, right ?
July 23, 2008
Word of Mouth. If we could just get customers, staff and prospective clients to discuss and talk about our product or service. ( Bear with me here – there’s a great pay off at the end. )
I’ve been doing some thinking recently about the role of Community Managers within companies. Community managers are the folk who manage on line communications both internally and externally. They use social media tools to amplify message and form tribes among your customers and staff.
This is a bit of an over simplification of the role but you get my drift I’m sure.
In thinking about community managers I’ve also been listening to the chatter over at RMM London about Social Media Footprints and thinking about how all this fits ( or should fit ) into your communications strategy.
The other piece of the puzzle then is off line – real world – communications. When we include events into our marketing strategy, Word of Mouth is what we are trying to create . Yes?
We bring clients together in the hope of making them Brand Advocates, we gather staff at conference centers wanting them depart, enthused to talk about our new sales strategy.
Our social media strategies are aimed at getting tribes tapping out word of mouth via their keyboards – talking on line, via txt, twitter and their blogs. So understanding WoM is very impotant.
( Get ready- the pay off I promised it comming – very soon. )
I’ve been reading Dave Balter’s new book – The word of mouth manual. Volume 2.
It brings the issues surrounding, and the thinking around WoM beautifully into focus and is a must read for anyone wanting their product or service talked about.
Dave is a remarkable fellow with a remarkable company. BzzAgent. In true word of mouth style and with an understanding that ideas belong to no one person, Dave has generously made his book avalable for free download. Business books should change the way you think – particularly in an age where time is such a premium.
The word of mouth manual Volume 2 is rewards that investment.
